About The Artist

I was born and live in Oxford, England and I have always enjoyed painting and drawing for as long as I can remember. I was always in the art rooms at school especially when I was in the sixth form and had more “spare time”. From there I went to the Sunningwell school of art in 1986/87 to brush up on my techniques and learn new ones.

From an early age I enjoyed reading science fiction and fantasy books. J.R.R. Tolkien, David Eddings, Asimov. Many of my early paintings were of strange alien landscapes and huge lumbering spaceships. Drawing inspiration at the time from Sci-Fi and fantasy artists like Tim White, Peter Jones, Jim Burns and Chris Foss.

When not painting commissions my interests give me the inspiration for my paintings. Having an interest in history, nature, travel, the countryside and ancient Britain. I love to explore ancient monuments like stone circles, long barrows, hill forts and standing stones. Then there is my love of synthesizer music and listening to Tangerine Dream always puts me in the mood for painting.

In 1992 I was a finalist in the “PAWS” paint a wildlife subject competition with my painting “Wolf” organized and judged by internationally acclaimed wildlife artist Roy Chaffin. I made the final again in 1993 with my painting “Polar Bear” and in 1994 with “Wildebeest”

I have had my paintings on display at various local exhibitions and had a stand at the Contact International UFO research conference at the Exeter Hall Kidlington showing my impressions of UFOs and illustrating UFO encounters. Some of my UFO paintings have been used as illustrations on the World mysteries and true ghost tales website. More recently I have done a series of oil paintings of world war two aircraft like the Spitfire and Hawker Hurricane.

I lived in Pembrokeshire for a few years, a very beautiful and spiritual place, and met the author Brian John. Brian wrote a series of five novels called the “Angel Mountain Saga” set in West Wales about the feisty Mistress Martha Morgan of Plas Ingli on the slope of Carningli - the angel mountain.

Materials

My preferred medium is quality Oil paints on canvas or I use acrylics, gouache and water colours, on stretched paper or watercolour board depending on the effect I'm trying to achieve and the subject of the painting. The photo prints use fade resistant inks on photo quality paper.
